Some Explanations
Here are some possible explanations about which of the pictures above show one-half and which do not.
- The pictures in the set above that show one-half are pictures B and F. In picture B, the water takes up half of the glass. In picture F, half of the slices are colored red.
- In picture A, only 3 slices are colored orange, but 4 are not. This means that less than half of the slices are colored orange.
- In picture C, less than half of the dessert has been eaten and more than half of it is left. It looks like there were 20 pieces to start with. Half of that would be ten pieces, but there are 17 pieces left, so that is more than half.
- In picture D, the battery is less than half full. The red part reaches less than halfway up the battery.
- In picture E, there is more than half of the cookie remaining. The person who took a bite out of it has eaten less than half of it because the part they ate is smaller than the part that is left.
